WHO WE ARE

This is our story

BUKAYA is a project by DEVENTURE and started in the remote little town Gidole in southwest Ethiopia. Eva, our main brain behind the project, went to visit the school on site a first time in 2020. In Gidole we collaborate with a committee of local townspeople. To prevent emigration to the capital city Addis Ababa and to support their home communities they founded a private kindergarten and primary school.

As an experienced teacher, Eva brought a backpack of valuable knowledge to share with the local teachers. At the same time, she learned how she herself could grow through the exchange. The insight into other school systems enabled her to take away new findings for her work in Switzerland.

At BUKAYA we are convinced, that by discovering the unknown with and from each other, we can learn and grow. With BUKAYA, we want to make this experience possible for other open-minded people as well.

Learn. Share. Explore. Exchange.

BUKAYA offers interested teachers and individuals with a social work background the opportunity to get to know alternative, inspiring school models. Our partner schools are innovative micro-projects, which we visit regularly ourselves. We continuously check the current needs on site and match them with the skills and interests of our volunteers.

You define the duration of your stay. From our experience we recommend to spend at least 3-4 weeks on site in the project. Longer stays are also possible in order to fully dive into the daily school routine.

BUKAYA accompanies you through all the preparatory processes in the preparation of your trip and is at your side at all times during your stay remote as a reliable partner for advice and support.
